  14. Uuunnnhhh!  Funk Alert!  (Or, Has Charles Finally Gone Nuts?)

  17.   Hiya, shareware addicts.  Here's another nifty utility from Little
  18. Green Footballs Software.
  19.  
  20.   This is a tiny program (it uses less than 1K when installed!) that
  21. assigns the buttons in GEM alert boxes to the function keys F1, F2, and
  22. F3!  This means that any program that calls the GEM AES form_alert()
  23. routine (i.e. almost _every_ GEM program) now has built-in, easy to
  24. remember "hot key" equivalents for its alert box buttons!
  25.  
  26.   We've all seen those standard GEM dialog boxes that have a bit image
  27. of a question mark, exclamation point, or stop sign, with up to three
  28. buttons at the bottom of the box.  Most alert boxes also have a
  29. "default" button, which is indicated by a heavier border around the
  30. button; this button is selected when you type Return.

  32.   Trouble is, it seems like most of the time the button the programmer
  33. thinks should be the default button isn't the one you want to use all
  34. the time ... so you're forced to reach for the mouse every time one of
  35. those durn-blasted boxes appears.

  38. Funk Alert! To The Rescue
  39. -------------------------

  41.   To use Funk Alert!, just copy the program into your AUTO folder.  Its
  42. position in the AUTO folder doesn't matter.  The next time you reboot
  43. your computer, Funk Alert! will automatically install itself; you'll see
  44. a title message as it loads.

  46.   If you don't already have an AUTO folder, use the desktop's "New
  47. Folder" function to create a folder called "AUTO" on the disk with which
  48. you boot up.  Then copy the FUNKALRT.PRG file into this folder, and Funk
  49. Alert! will automatically install itself when you reboot your computer.

  51.   You may also run Funk Alert! from the GEM desktop or from CodeHead
  52. Software's HotWire shell; if you do this, Funk Alert! will display an
  53. alert box, giving you the choice of installing it or cancelling without
  54. installing.

  57. Tiny But Powerful!
  58. ------------------

  60.   While Funk Alert! is installed, it will watch for all calls to the
  61. form_alert() function which produces those consarned alert boxes, and
  62. whenever it sees one it will watch for you to type the function key
  63. (F1, F2, or F3) corresponding to the button you wish to select.  Since
  64. alert boxes can have a maximum of three buttons, these keys map very
  65. nicely and obviously to the buttons and are easy to remember.

  67.   Everything else in the alert box will still operate normally; you can
  68. still click any of its buttons with the mouse or type Return to select
  69. its default button.
